How to arrive

Zakopane is located about 100 km from the international airport Krakow, has its own railway station and can be easily reached also by bus and car.

Before coming to Zakopane, you are cordially welcomed to Krakow, a famous Central-European cultural and scientific center, and the old royal capital of Poland. In this town, rich in monuments and architecture, there are twelve universities besides the Jagellonian, founded in 1364, one of the oldest academic centres in Europe.

From Krakow to Zakopane - organized transport

The conference is providing transport by bus from Krakow to Zakopane. The price of the ticket is 10 €. The bus will depart on September 22 (at 4 p.m.) from the main building (A-0) of the AGH University of Science and Technology, al. Mickiewicza 30 (see map).

If you travel to Krakow by train, we advise to take a taxi. The trip from Krakow Glowny railway station to the AGH University will cost the equivalent of 4 €.

On the 22nd the participants will be able to leave their luggage at the main building (A-0) of the AGH University from 8 a.m. Refreshment will also be available and it will be possible to register for the conference and to take a walk in the historical center of Krakow. The departure of the bus from the AGH University to Zakopane is planned at 4 p.m.

From Krakow to Zakopane - individual arrival

Individual arrival to Zakopane from Krakow is also easy. There is a special train every half an hour from the Krakow airport to Krakow Glowny railway station. It is possible to travel to Zakopane by train from Krakow Glowny railway station, but also by bus as the bus station is situated nearby the railway station. The time of the train/buses can be checked on a web pages Polish State Railways and Krakow bus station respectively.

From Zakopane to Krakow

Transport will be provided after the conference on September 25, 26 and 27 at 9 a.m. The price of the ticket is 10 €.

From Zakopane to Zátonské Dvory

The conference is providing transport by bus from Zakopane to Zátonské Dvory for participants of the 18th Clay Conference in the Czech Republic. The departure of the bus from the hotel Belvedere is planed on September 28 at 9 a.m.

Visas

For citizens of most countries a valid passport (ID card for citizens of the EU countries) is sufficient to enter Poland. Unfortunately citizens of some countries need a visa. All participants are advised to check visa requirements on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland website or to contact their nearest Polish Embassy or a diplomatic mission or travel agency. No visas are issued on arrival.

The Organizing Committee of the MECC'08 will issue on request invitation letters for visa applicants. Please apply in due time for a visa whenever necessary. Those who need a personal invitation to attend the conference should thick the relevant box in the Registration Form.

Currency

The official currency in Poland is zloty (PLN). You can get an idea about exchange rate on the National Bank of Poland website (the current rate is: 1 € = 3.60 PLN). Credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express etc.) are accepted by almost all hotels and shops. There are numerous ATM machines.
